Since the 1st of April this year, something special happens every Saturday morning in ‘het Amsterdamse bos’ (Amsterdam city forest). A group of TCS employees from different parts of the country, come together to run under the supervision of a professional running coach.
While all of us who are part of this group already believed in the importance of a healthy lifestyle, we had varying levels of experience with running. A few months down the line it is magical to see how running together has connected us all and how we have grown personally and professionally as a group. Our runs together have proved to be such a fantastic way to de-stress that we now often train on weeknights too. And the number of members just keeps on growing!
The Amsterdam Bos Runners were instrumental in conducting the Global Running Day in Netherlands in June, in which as many as two hundred runners participated. And we keep continuing the momentum with special events - last August all of us ran for 70 minutes to commemorate India’s 70th Independence Day. We started in the forest at 6:30 am at a medium pace, followed by a brisk patch through the foggy morning whilst picking up speed along the River Amstel. It was a beautiful sight to see our healthy group run, especially when the sun broke through the clouds. What was a big surprise was that our posts on social media reached the Indian Ambassador in The Hague, who promptly invited us to come and meet him. That will be a proud moment for us all.
And our story continues. Many of us are now training to compete as Team TCS Netherlands in the TCS Liddingloppet Cross Country Run in Sweden, in September. And there are quite a few Amsterdam Bos Runners who hope to complete their first full Marathon during the TCS Amsterdam Marathon in October. As you can tell, the run has just begun.
